 Honors American Gem Dealer and Fellow Miner

Charles Mark of Castle Rock, Colorado and Fort Lauderdale, Florida was elected as a full member and official Sole International Representative for the Larimar Miners Cooperative on October 15, 2011. Mark is the first and only non-Dominican member of the nationally-licensed Co-operativa controlling the limited mining and export flow of the precious sea-blue gemstone. Classified as ‘very rare’ by the Gemological Institute of America, true Larimar is only found deep within one remote volcanic hillside in the Dominican Republic.

 

Charles Mark received the membership award in person.

“I am proud, excited and happy to be invited into this remarkable group,” said Mark during a recent interview. “This is a great honor for me. I’ve worked hand-in-hand with these brave souls for over 26 years, and I find them to possess natural integrity and a certain uncommon courage. Larimar would have remained obscure had it not been for these skilled miners and their families. They live their lives for this stone.”

In 2011, the Mountain-Mark Trading Ltd head office and lapidary workshop relocated to Castle Rock, Colorado after 30 years in Mark's birthplace of Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
